One of the more famous animal is a mammal "Čagalj", a type of jackal.
Viganj is known as a surfing and kiting destination. Because of its location on the narrowest part of Pelješac channel, under the slopes of mt. St. Ilija, mistral blows at an above average rate. During the day average wind speeds are around 5 on the Beaufort scale, but can get as high as 8. The Croatian windsurfing championship is held every year.
